Sessions FAQ

This page answers questions about booking sessions and what to expect in sessions.

1. How do I book a session? – You can book a session with David here, or Jonathan here.

2. When I book a session, what happens? – After booking, you’ll receive an email that lists the date, time, and Google Meet link.

3. How do I access Google Meet? – Google Meet is similar to Zoom, and can be downloaded as an app on your phone or tablet, or can be accessed on the web at meet.google.com.

4. How much is a session? – The price of a session depends on the nature of the session and any discounts we may be offering. Please check each booking page for the current price.

5. Is my purchase safe? – Yes. We use Stripe to process all payments, as do many major businesses. Stripe is secure, and allows you to pay with a credit card or debit card. We also accept other major and secure payment methods, like PayPal and Square.

6. What should I do to prepare for a session? – Make sure that you have a quiet location for your session. It is helpful to have a relaxing environment with a comfortable chair. You may want to use headphones, but if not, being able to clearly hear us is important. You can use a computer, tablet, or phone. Ideally, you’ll have a working camera and microphone, but a microphone, including the one built into your device, is essential. If you are using your phone, having a way to secure it so you don’t have to hold it is desirable.

7. Besides technical details, do I need to do anything before we meet? – Come into the session with an open mind and ready to make some great changes.

8. What will happen in the introductory session? – During this session, we’ll get to know each other. You’ll get a chance to share what the problem is, describe how you got the problem, and how you’ve dealt with it before. After that we will begin the change work. Typically the introductory session will consist of establishing quality goals and also experiencing some powerful brain training work related to staying motivated to work on those goals.

9. Is this therapy? No, we are not therapists, nor do we treat mental illness. Therapy can be beneficial for many people, but what we do is very different and shouldn’t be confused with therapy. Many of our clients have not been satisfied with the cost and slow results of therapy, or have issues that are outside the scope of therapy, such as getting over fears, enhancing mindset, or performing better in social settings. If you have underlying mental health issues that might benefit from therapy, we may recommend a therapist in addition to, or in place of, our services.

10. Do you take insurance? What we do isn’t therapy or medical treatment, so we don’t take insurance.

11. Tell me about the informed consent policy – Yes, we have an informed consent policy. You must read it and agree to it before any sessions.

12. Is anything I share with you completely private? – We keep everything you share private, with the exception of the following: child abuse, child neglect, and immediate severe danger to others or yourself. We are ethically obligated to share this information.

13. Are hypnosis and brain training harmful? – You have already trained your brain. Others have also done it. When your teacher said, “you aren’t good enough,” that was brain training. When your ex made you feel worthless, that was brain training. When you tell yourself you’re shy and can’t communicate with someone, that’s brain training. The brain training and hypnosis we do are about putting YOU in charge of your thoughts. We don’t train you to do anything…we help you retrain your brain.

14. What will hypnosis feel like? – For some people, hypnosis feels like a dream. Some people remember a lot of it, and others remember very little. For some people, it feels like normal time, while for others, it seems like time is passing very quickly or slowly.

15. Can I be hypnotized to do something against my will? This is a common myth about hypnosis. The answer is “no.” Studies show that people won’t do things that will harm them while under hypnosis. Studies also show that you retain your sense of self and ethics during hypnosis. You will, however, deeply connect with your true self while under hypnosis. So, you might do things that are really cool that you’d never let yourself do normally, like enjoy life, do creative things, and easily give up bad habits.
